Delightful and delicious Tom’s Cakes on Mill Road, Cambridge

Today I enjoyed lunch with a friend at Tom’s Cakes, a delightful new café in Mill Road which only opened for business last week. It already looked well established and busy with customers, who were either eating in or taking out Tom’s delicious sweet or savoury bakes. It’s located at no 32, which was formerly occupied by another café in a previous life.

We were mesmerised by the huge selection of very reasonably priced cakes attractively displayed at the counter. For drinks I had a pot of tea from a selection available supplied by the Kandula Tea Company from Wilburton, Cambs, and my friend had a coffee, sourced  from the renowned Monmouth Coffee Company.img_0191-2img_0197-2img_0193-2

We shared a mouth-watering jumbo sausage roll and a savoury quiche. Both were exceptionally good bakes

My friend enjoyed her Viennese Whirl, which was deliciously short and light

My classic scone filled with fresh cream and jam was so big I had to ask for a box to take half of it home to eat later!
My friend couldn’t resist buying this exquisitely decorated cupcake as a treat for her granddaughter

Tom’s Cakes offers a wonderful selection of cakes and biscuits to take away or eat inside, and at very reasonable prices too. We paid £11.50 for our lunch, with drinks included.

Tom’s Cakes has a smart blue shop frontage and a seating area in the back garden

Tom’s cakes also has a Café and Shop in St Ives, Cambs

Formerly the Toll House for the St Ives sheep market, Tom’s Cakes café and shop can be found at 19 Market Hill, in a unique building which has been sensitively restored. I have been to this welcoming tea room and cake shop several times when visiting St Ives, and like the new Cambridge location both places are highly recommended for their excellence and value. (The staff are nice and friendly too).
